About
When the Great Depression hit in 1929, all of the banks of Oconee County failed leaving the county without a bank for the next 30 years. Farmers and small merchants have to travel to Athens for their banking needs. A group of community leaders recognized the need for a bank in Oconee County and chartered Oconee State Bank opening its doors on February 1, 1960. Today, Oconee State Bank proudly operates six full service financial centers across Oconee County, Athens-Clarke County, Gwinnett County, Macon-Bibb County, and Elbert County. In the 2025, in the bank's 65th anniversary year, it has opened a loan production office in Statesboro and announced the expansion of Macon-Bibb to be a new Middle Georgia Market.
Oconee State Bank's mission is to create remarkable experiences that significantly mark the lives of others. The bank values SUCCESS - Stewardship, Unity, Collaboration, Community, Excellence, Service and Solutions.
