Youth Summit 2010 Keynote/Workshop Descriptions brought to you by: FTC Prevention Services "Message in the Music" - This informative, fun, and interactive course will introduce you to the lyrical content of various genres of music played over the radio today. We explore current trends by examining the messages that are openly displayed and sometimes hidden in hip hop, rock & roll, country, heavy metal, emo, r & b, and blues. "Don't Hate the Player, Hate the Game" - Participants will learn some of the deadly "games" they play and the dangerous coping mechanisms they sometimes choose. We also discuss some key indicators to help youth identify "red flags" in peers when suicidal thoughts, behaviors, and tendencies are suspected. This workshop attempts to accentuate the positive and provide coping skills for the negative issues in the lives of youth. "Sugar and Spice, But Not Too Nice" - This workshop focuses on prevention by attempting to re-direct those opportunities for females to explode (being hijacked by anger) into opportunities for them to choose wisely. The workshop emphasizes the importance of making positive choices and considering consequences of each choice. Subject matter also includes discussion on messages in the media and music that send negative rather than positive messages. Participants are engaged in the thought process - we don't tell them what to think, we just encourage them to think! "Keeping It Real" - Young men today face a wide array of issues that challenge them and what they believe to be their manhood. We challenge your way of thinking and reasoning while encouraging you to search for safe, creative, productive, and suitable alternatives. The workshop facilitator will definitely "keep it real" with the young men who participate in this session by sharing life-long lessons learned through experience and a great grandfather who kept it real for him. "Take This to The Bank" - During this presentation, Marc takes issues that youth face today and challenges them with creative dialogue, while planting life skill seeds of prevention, decision-making and education for use in their everyday lives. From topics on positive attitude and behaviors to goal setting and self-esteem issues, his hilarious and energetic illustrations of real life scenarios will engage you and stimulate your thoughts while challenging you to take advantage of every opportunity that exists. Marc encourages all to pick up the pennies and take them to the bank. It's a deposit that guarantees a return!
