Recent computer and information security incidents in the DoD, the US, and globally have put a spotlight on cybersecurity like never before. In March of this year, new DoD policy was signed to address the exponential growth of this national and international security concern. The Risk Management Framework for DoD Information Technology (DoD Instruction 8510.01) replaces the DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) and attempts to transform Cybersecurity (formerly known as Information Assurance) throughout the Department of Defense. Concepts like continuous monitoring, reciprocity, lifecycle risk management, and operational resilience take center stage with this new policy. Additionally, this policy relies on guidance and controls that have been developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Standards (NIST), the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS), and other government agencies, along with industry.
Mr. Tim Denman, current Systems Engineering and Technology Department Chair at DAU in Huntsville will speak on the DoD Risk Management Framework and how this policy affects you. Whether you're an IT specialist, a program manager, an engineer, a contracting specialist, a logistics expert, or a purchasing agent, this new policy could have major implications on your program and your job. Don't miss this opportunity to get a glimpse at how the DoD is attempting to change the culture as it relates to securing cyber communications and the networks and systems on which it presides.
