Event Description:
The Warner Robins Police Department will be conducting a 12-week Citizens Police Academy. The classes will be on Tuesday evenings beginning March 6 through May 22, 2007. The purpose of the Citizen's Police Academy is not to teach members of the community to be police officers. Instead, it is an opportunity for them to gain a better understanding of the responsibilities and challenges of the police profession. Participants learn about the criminal justice system and how they can work with their local police departments to address community problems. The "students" learn about the different units in the pollice department and experience some of the training. They also are allowed to go on patrol with the officers. You do not have to be a citizen of Warner Robins to participate. Below is a brief description of some of the classes. Hiring Process - Learn about the tests that a person must pass to join the Warner Robins PD. Class participants have the opportunity to run the physical agility test. Communications - Tour of the 911 Center and police communications system. Traffic Law and Accident Investigation - Criminal Investigations - Drug Investigations - Canine Operations Crime Scene Investigations - Participants will get to see the equipment and collect evidence. Use of Force and Defensive Tactics - Learn how police officers are trained to defend themselves. Another hands-on class. Firearms - Participants will learn about the weapons used by police officers, and how to use them. If you are interested in attending this class, contact Grace Hodges at (478) 929-7253
