AFA thank-a-Vet Run and Beterans Day Dedication
The Air Force Association (AFA) Carl Vinson Memorial Chapter and POW/MIA Memorial Committee will host the annual Veterans Day Dedication on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at the Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base. Events for the Veterans Day Dedication include a 5k/one-mile run/walk, memorial ground breaking, and special guest speaker Bill Robinson.
Check-in time for the 5K/one-mile run/walk begins at 7:15 a.m. The pre-registration fee of $15 covers a T-shirt and refreshments. On-site registration is $20. A picture identification card is required. Interested persons may register on-line at the AFA Web site, http://cv-afa.org/.
The POW/MIA Memorial Groundbreaking will be held after the 5K run before the awards ceremony. All the proceeds from the run will be dedicated to POW/MIA Memorial Monument, which will be erected at the Museum of Aviation. To date, $110,000 has been raised toward the construction cost of approximately $130,000.
Retired Cpt. Bill Robinson, North Vietnam POW veteran, will share his story at the groundbreaking ceremony. Cpt. Robinson was captured when the helicopter in which he and his men were traveling went down in the city of Tan An. He spent seven years in a Hanoi prison before being released.
Sponsors of the event will be recognized and have an area to display materials. Companies or individuals interested in sponsoring the race may contact David Cowles at (478) 955-0568 or 327-3476.
